In the Bollinger vineyard, the implementation of an environmentally-friendly, sustainable viticulture is a real commitment. Two years after obtaining the High Environmental Value certification, Champagne Bollinger is today the first House to obtain for its vineyard the new certification “Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne”. It is the Comité Champagne that in May 2014 launched a new sustainable viticulture technical frame of reference. This proposes that the Champagne vineyards obtain an environmental certification adapted to the specific nature of the Champagne AOC (controlled designation of origin). This certification is based on voluntary commitments regarding the winegrowing practices including vine training, phytosanitary protection, the use of fertilizers, soil maintenance, waste management, landscape preservation and biodiversity. Following the full audit of the 125 requirements at the end of June, an independant certifying body confirmed Bollinger’s compliance with this new frame of reference. At the same time, Champagne Bollinger has also acquired a new-generation electric tractor. In line with sustainable viticulture, this tractor eliminates fuel consumption, dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. It also significantly improves working conditions for employees. Champagne Bollinger thus extends and intensifies its efforts undertaken for many years to respect the environment and preserve the landscape, particularly with a view to Champagne’s application to UNESCO's World Heritage List.
